DRAGON HORN on SATURDAY NIGHTS
Dragonhorn Tavern in Albuquerque has brought karaoke back on Saturday nights. This is new news to me, I have not been there to check it out or see who the KJ is.
SPEAKEASY pulled off THURSDAY'S
Call Me Ozz has a listing policy that if a venue routinely cancels karaoke often they will be removed from the Find a Place to Sing Tonight page. They can be re-added if they sign an agreement to not cancel karaoke anymore. I went to Speakeasy Lounge on Thursday, June 26th and for the third time in six months that I stopped by on a Thursday, there was no karaoke. It was replaced by a band. Call Me Ozz would rather promote the venues that put karaoke first.
NOTICE: Change in how we list KJ's within karaoke COMPANIES
Effective now, Call Me Ozz will list KJ Companies as a whole when it comes to showing who the KJ is in VENUE PROFILES page. As far as the KJ SHOWCASE is concerned, each KJ can have an individual profile, however, in the section of where to find that KJ, it will no longer say where you can find THAT KJ per say, it will list all of the venues that COMPANY can be found at. It will also no longer be noted in the NEWSLETTER unless the company loses the venue. This only pertains to companies with more than two KJ's including the owner. This affects, Kammo's Karaoke and DJ Services, Live Mic Entertainment and Boop Karaoke.
So as many of you have heard there is one bad ass karaoke contest coming up. The NM State Fair Karaoke Competition 2014 will begin preliminary qualifying at Lucky 66 Bowl on June 28th. Ten venues and eleven KJ's are involved and qualifying singers to hit the Main Pavilion Stage during the NM State Fair. Here's the concerns I hear, and how they have been addressed:

1-"I don't like local competitions because it's all about popularity and the judges are karaoke people themselves so they are not fair."
No worries! We don't care of you bring in 50 friends, doesn't mean your going to the Main Pavilion. The judges will be paid judges that have nothing to do with the karaoke community. They will be of the music industry and will be judging on Key, Timing, How Well you Know Your Song and how well you involve the audience.

2-"I hate it when my venue holds a contest, I come to sing and then the contest blocks out regular karaoke and I don't get to sing unless I enter".
No worries! Contestants will be in the regular rotation that night. You won't even know they are competing. Only Ozz, the KJ and the Judges will know. It is the job of the contestant to impress the audience without them knowing.

3-"The odds suck, I am not good enough to win that big of a contest."
Don't worry about winning the contest. Just have fun and I'll bet you end up on the stage! Don't lie, we all know us karaokeans love the thrill of people clapping! You know you wanna sing on the ultimate karaoke stage at least once in your life! (Warning: this sound system is nothing like you've ever sang on before.) We are looking for 60 singers from the outside venues to hit the stage, and then 36 from inside the State Fair. You all are amazing! I really wanna see all of you involved! The Venues, KJ's and the NM State Fair are counting on you! Getting YOU on this stage is my way of saying THANK YOU for the support of Call Me Ozz!!!!!

REST IN PEACE
Unfortunately sometimes we have to say goodbye to our great singers, friends and family. Call Me Ozz has a page dedicated to those who have left us. Visit the Rest In Peace memorial page if you know someone who should be there or if you'd like to leave a comment in one of their guestbooks. Fortunately we did not have to say goodbye to anyone last month.

GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION to begin qualifying for the NM STATE FAIR CONTEST

Graham Central Station will begin their in house qualifications on Thursday, July 10th. They will pre-qualify 4 singers each Thursday for five weeks. Then on Thursday, August 14th, those twenty pre-qualified will return to find who the six are that are going to the Main Pavilion Stage.

SLATE STREET will be the first to send 6 to THE STAGE!

Slate Street will be the first venue to send six singers to the Main Pavilion Stage at the NM State Fair. They will hold their one night only qualification night on Thursday, July 31st. Pre-Registration opens July 15th at 9:00am. You will want to Pre-Register, because only 20 can compete.

We are now on the hunt for judges for the NM State Fair Karaoke Competition. The judges we are looking for are those people who are not in the local karaoke community. They will have to have some kind of musical background. They will be judging the contestants on Key, Timing, How Well They Know Their Song, and How Well Get Audience Interaction and Reaction.

If you, or you know someone who might fit the bill, please send them to the JUDGES APPLICATION page and fill out the application.

DJ DRAZTIK to co host with BEEN THERE SUNG THAT

DJ DraZtik will be hosting with Lyle Murdoc, the owner a host of Been There Sung That, a weekly internet live karaoke talk show on Wednesday, July 23rd. Be sure to tune in. Visit the FACEBOOK event for all the details.

We have already been asked and we figured we would. So we kept very specific records to cover ourselves. Once Call Me Ozz found out it got the NM State Fair contract, the first thing we did was let our sponsors know about it. Then we made sure every other karaoke venue in the area knew about it. Ozz personally went to every venue to talk to the manager. If the manager was not available, a flyer was left with an employee with the understanding they would make sure the manger or the owner got it. Participating venues were limited to the first ten. These are the venues most serious about making karaoke successful in their venue.
Why isn't my favorite venue a qualifying venue?
