Welcome to the 2016 NM State Fair Karaoke Showcase and the 2016 Karaoke Season ® in New Mexico! We are so excited to be hosting this third annual amazing event in partnership with the New Mexico State Fair, and many venues and KJ’s across the state.

Between April 15 and September 5, we will be hosting many qualifying auditions in many venues across the state to find the top 96 adult karaoke junkies and top 12 minor (under 21) karaoke junkies. Each venue will be qualifying anywhere from 2-10 singers. Scroll down to find out who the venues are and when they are hosting the qualifying night in your neighborhood.

Most venues, but not all will require pre-registering on line right here. Click on the button on the navigation menu to REGSITER. There will be open karaoke at the Fair, however there will not be any qualifying at the Fair, anyone in the showcase has to qualify at a participating venue.

Once you qualify to the NM State Fair Karaoke Showcase, you will chose your night at the Fair and receive a pass for entry.

Each night at the Fair, for the first eight nights, twelve adults will sing a song on the Main Pavilion. They will be scored by a panel of qualified judges and the scores will be sealed. After the twelve have sung on the eighth night, the scores will be opened and the top twenty four singers will return on the ninth night for the semi finals. After the twenty four have sung a song, the judges will determine the top twelve, and they shall return on the tenth night for the finals. Once the top twelve have sung a song, the judges will determine the top three, and then the top three shall sing two songs in a row, and then the judges shall determine the third place, second place and the new Karaoke Champion of New Mexico, and give all three of them some cash, a trophy, and other amazing prizes.

On the last day of the Fair, in the late afternoon. The twelve qualified minors shall take the stage and each sing one song. While the judges are determining who the top three minors are, we will be awarding the Top Male, Top Female, Top Minor, Best KJ, Best Venue and Special Recognition awards. Once the judges have determined the top three minors, each one shall be called on stage to sing two songs in a row. The judges will then determine the third place, second place and the 2016 NM State Fair Minor Karaoke Champion, and give all three of them some cash, a trophy, and other amazing prizes.

We are partnering with Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention and Mental Health awareness this year in hopes that we may be able to help those needing to find help for Mental Health. There will be a table at each of the venues and the NMSF with information to help.

We are also providing coaches for everyone who enters this year. Angie Edwards and Milli Wilson have donated their time to help you get through this massive event. When you register you will be assigned a coach that will answer any questions you may during your journey.

Anyone who tries out three times at a "QUALIFICATION AUDITION" and does not advance into the "SHOWCASE" will be guaranteed a reserved spot in the OPEN KARAOKE and a pass into the Fair on the chosen day.

There was an error on the date that minors need to turn in their song by. The rules state they must turn in their song by 3:00pm on September 10th. That should be 3:00pm on September 11th.

NOTICE OF CHANGE IN THE SUMMER LOVIN FINALS:

It has been changed that the contestants will NOT have a warm up song. This competition will be ran just like all of the other CMO auditions, in that anyone attending the event as a spectator or supporter may also sing. Also, the start time has been changed to 8:30pm and will commence by 12:30am. Winning contestants must be present to win.

This will also affect the hosting at the NMSF, however we have not finalized that decision yet.

One big thing that has changed this year is, we are more focused on getting great karaoke singers on the Main Pavilion at the NM State Fair rather than stressing everyone out to win a competition. We want to keep the fun and the excitement in the season this year. This is a journey. It all starts by hanging out at your favorite venue and having fun singing songs with your fellow karaoke family. From there, you advance to the biggest karaoke venue in the state where you get to sing n front of hundreds of people and enjoy the concert sound ans lights. Sign up today, you'll be glad you did.

TUESDAY, APRIL 19TH, 2016;

Good News! As long as you try out you will sing at the Fair! This year we want to reward those that try but don't make it to the Showcase. There will be open karaoke every afternoon (5:45pm) at the Fair, however, it is limited to 8-10 singers per day. If you try out at least three times and do not qualify to the showcase, you will be guaranteed a spot to sing in the open karaoke AND you will receive a free pass to get into the fair! So don't worry about, just get out and sing and have fun!

SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2016:

The first pre-qualifying round is in the books and karaoke season has officially begun! Click on the ELIMINATION BRACKETS button to see who is coming back on the 27th to be the first adults to the Fair! Get your reservation in before it's too late!  And so, Karaoke Pre Season has begun! The first preseason audition was held at Lucky 66 Bowl happened last night. It seemed to be off to a slow start. We had 8 signed up, four had to reschedule, then 5 walked in and signed up. By 10:30 pm there were 35 singers in the queue! The place was packed and full of very very fun people! I am so happy to see Karaoke Season back in full swing! Congratulations to our first four pre-qualifiers that will return on May 27th to vie for the first ten spots at the NM State Fair! Way to go Jimmy Jones, Wanda Baca,  Terese Garcia, and Dawn Adams!

The on line registration for any venue will close down 24 hours prior to the qualification day/time. This is to allow plenty of time to process the registrations. There will be a notice posted on the registration form with the number of spaces available at the time of shut down.

VENUE QUALIFICATION UPDATE:

There is going to be a small change in the final two to be qualified to the NMSF.  Originally we were seeking a venue to send two adult singers to the Fair. But, then we thought about having Ozz pick those two. However, after careful reconsideration we are giving it back to a venue to host this audition….Why?....:

1-Some people may consider it to be bias if Ozz picks them.

2-For those who try out at auditions (which can be a lot of work, practice and stress) may feel like it’s unfair that someone randomly gets in.

3-Due to extremely high demand for venues wanting to participate, we believe it would be best to allow as many venues as possible to participate.

THURSDAY, SEPETMBER 11, 2015:

First a moment to remember the attack on our country fourteen years ago today, that took thousands of innocent lives unexpectedly all because we won’t bow to their way of life. Thank God for our freedom and the fact that we can come out and sing freely without being tortured for our beliefs.

Last night was the first round of eliminations at the Villa Hispana Spanish only karaoke and wow what talent we had. Although it was a tough job the judges picked the three to move onto the Semi Final rounds on September 18th. Their names can be found in the Elimination Brackets.

Join us tonight as we first enjoy the Game Show from 4:30-5:15, then Last Chance to qualify, as seven contestants vi for their one spot in the Elimination Round at the Main Pavilion from 5:30-6:15. Then the interactive Game Show takes the stage from 6:30-7:15, and then we bring on the Elimination Rounds where we will qualify the next three to the semi finals. Then immediately following the elimination round we welcome Kevin Kennedy as he hosts the first ever Headliners! Call Me Ozz Comedy Showcase from 9:00-10:00pm.

Do I have to sing different songs throughout the Fair?

No, you can sing any song you want, as many times as you want, as long as it falls in the guidelines of the rules. The judges do not dock you necessarily for singing the same song over and over.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2015:

So today we were posed with a very realistic question….at the Fair, we are scheduled to have four judges. What happens if one doesn’t show up?

Under Force Major, we would have to allow the competition to go on. As the saying goes, The Show Must Go On……We would try to find a back up judge to take their place, however, if time did not permit, we would have to use the judges we have on hand.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2015:

Howdy folks! We are only two days away from Fair day! And of course all the last minute things are coming at us. We strive to make this competition a blast for everyone and that is why we rules in place. We prefer to call them agreements. It’s an agreement that if you enter this competition you agree to follow the rules and we agree to deliver the competition. Right now we are in our two second warning finalizing everything to make sure this all goes off without a hitch. While we don’t; want to discourage anyone from asking a question, we also ask that if it is in the agreement that it not be asked. That makes us take time off what we need to be doing to answer something that was agreed to in the first place.

The number one question asked is, can I change my song. We made super duper sure everyone knew the deadline for song changes was September 2 at midnight. We called, we texted, we emailed, we even put it on your moving on sheet. We have 96 contestants, if we let one do it, we have let all 96 do it….that’s a recipe for disaster.  Take note, if you move on from the elimination rounds to the Semi Finals, you will be required to submit your song immediately and cannot be changed, so please be prepared…….52 hours and counting…sing you at the FAIR!

This year’s entire event has blown up so much bigger than last year we are doing everything we can just to keep up with all the events and contestants to make sure everything runs nice n smooth at the Fair and the Parade. Happy Tuesday everyone!

In making confirmation phone calls we are getting some frequently asked questions (FAQ) so we thought we would post the answers just in case you have the same question.

Keep in mind the terms, conditions and rules put in place are in place to ensure that we can effectively run a competition of this size with very little or no problems. With that said:

Can I change my night at the fair? (Rule 21.1) No changes to nights at the elimination rounds may be made. It would be a disaster to allow 96 qualifiers to change their nights to their convenience. You may drop out and then come in and attempt at last chance to qualify, however as of right now all those spots are full except two spots at the Spanish Only Villa Hispana night on Thursday, September 10th.

Will the minors be separated from the adults? No, we did not set a special qualification night for the minors. The judges will not take age into special consideration.

What about the parade? While you are being called for confirmation, we are also confirming that you still want to participate in the parade which has check in time of 7am on Saturday, September 12th. If you say yes you will receive and email on Friday, September 4th which you will have to respond to, in order to be on the roster.

Can I change my song on the phone with you? No, when you registered it was stated that all communication would be done throurgh the website, this is to ensure we don’t “forget” to make the change for you or to be sure you don’t show up at the Fair and have to sing a song you didn’t expect.

I work, or live to far away to get my passes, can you meet me at the Fair? We will not have staff to meet people at the fair. You can send someone to pick up your passes at the Fair office.

Can you make sure you have the right song/version for me? The best thing to do on this is, look at your night at the Fair on the elimination brackets. See who your KJ is, find out where he hosts (Go to the KJ SHOWCASE) then go sing with him and make sure he has the proper version for you. You may also request a specific version through the SONG CHANGE BUTTON. We hope this helps….sing you at the FAIR!

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015:

Last night was the final night of qualifying at the venues. It ended with a bang as the judges had to decide on only four out of sixteen very qualified singers to the NMSF!

Now that, that round has been completed, we can now finalize the order in which all the qualified singers will sing at the elimination rounds at the NMSF. You can find that by clicking on the ELIMINATION button at the top of this page to the left on the navigation menu to the left of the banner with all the participating venues.

How we set the order: Due to many complaints on how we determined the order last year, we decided to change it this year by scores. We were met with resistance from the committee so the final decision was to put all the names in a bucket and draw for their order. That is how the order was decided.

Please be aware! Just like we take walk ins for NO SHOWS at the venues, likewise we will do the same at the NMSF to make sure we have twelve each night in the Elimination Rounds.

39-Force Majeure shall go into effect for any unforeseen circumstance of these rules.

When this competition was set up there was a special night dedicated to Spanish only singers on the Villa Hispana Stage. At the rate we are going this particular venue has not met the qualified contestants necessary to fulfill this venue with ten qualified singers and two last chance. Therefore we must shut down the Last Chance to Qualify for other nights to allow for the remaining number of qualified contestants to choose their nights at the Fair. As of right now that would be September 15, 16 and 17th because no one has signed up for those nights as of yet. Once we have had our qualifying nights at Valencia County Fair (2) and Slate Street (4), if those spots are not chosen we will re-open the opportunity to reserve those nights. If those nights fill up with qualified singers, we will still have open karaoke and warm up for those that are qualified.

We will now put a big push to get Spanish Singers to the Last Chance to Qualify at the NMSF on Thursday, August 10th.

THURSDAY AUGUST 20, 2015:

Scoring Error, ways of correction & some helpful hints on succeeding:

During a qualifying night the judges are scoring each contestant in four categories. Key, Timing, Knowledge of the song and Audience Interaction. Each judge may score up to ten points per category, with a maximum score of 30 points per category, for a total maximum score of 120 points at qualifying venues and 160 points at the NMSF (because there is one additional judge).

Once all the contestants have sung, the scores are then transferred to the original check in sheet and placed next to the singer. Then Ozz, enters the scores again next to the singer to confirm that none of the numbers have been transposed. Ozz, then puts the names of the top 8 on the “Qualifiers Tonight” sheet and then the lead judge completes the fill in of the sheet.

We make every effort to make sure scores are recorded and transferred properly. Within the following week, the score are then audited by Ozz or a team member to make sure there were no errors. (Unlike in sports where the ref makes the final call and that’s the way it is.) If there is an error, the contestant with the error will be given a handicap at the next venue they try out at.

There are many times one person feels they should have made it and didn’t or others that feel that way.  Because this is a simple four way scoring system, some contestants score very high in one or two categories but very low in one or two on another category and one point can make or break them moving forward.

It’s important not to focus on just one, two or three of the categories, but rather all four of them;

Key: The judges are listening to hear if you are in key with the song. Pick songs that you know you can sing in key with.
Timing: Are you in time with song. The judges are watching you sing and watching the words on the screen to see how accurately you are in time.
Knowledge: How well do you know your song? The judges are watching to see if you are watching the screen.
Audience Interaction: Bringing your support team is always good for your confidence and we greatly encourage it, however, it is equally important that you draw in people you don’t know into your song. Your song choice can make or break your opportunity to move forward. Picking songs that people are familiar with, relate to and get them excited will greatly increase your odds to move forward.

The bottom line is, we are all in this to have fun, while it is a serious competition, keep the KARAOKE in it. Karaoke is about people going out to sing some their favorite songs with their friends and have a good time doing it. It is very interactive which is what sets it apart from being a lead singer in a band or the next Voice or America Has Talent superstar. Sing you soon, have a great day!

Clarification of NO SHOW/DISQUALIFY policy:

When you register on line you are reserving a spot to qualify in the NMSF Karaoke Competition which is a very high in demand competition. We have limited space so it is imperative that we allow as many participants to participate as possible. Once we close a registration because it is full, others cannot register, the only way they can get in is to show up at the said venue and take a spot from a no show. On the spot walk ins are harder to execute a smooth competition because one: They may not have fully read and understand the rules and two: The song selection can become a crises situation. 
Persons who reserve on line, and don’t notify us that they cannot make it through one of the extremely convenient ways of communication will be disqualified from being able to reserve spots for any future venue not only in the NMSF Karaoke Competition but any Call Me Ozz managed competition. No shows, may however, show up as a walk in and participate. 
We understand things happen and come up, so we have created a button on the registration page CHANGE VENUE that you can click on and let us know you can’t make it and either drop out or change to another venue. You understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2015: There has been a stage time change at the NMSF that has affected the number of Last Chance Qualifiers that can be accepted each day. See the bottom of the rule sheet for details.
There was also a modification concerning the first night at the Fair, with the Spanish Only Villa Hispana Stage

SUNDAY, JULY 26, 2015:

There has always been the question of, what will the singing order be at the Elimination Rounds at the NMSF. Last year it was simply in the order singers qualified. This year it will be shuffled by the qualifying scores. The order of singers will not be updated until the end of all of the qualifying rounds. All last chance qualifiers will be placed at the end.

SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2015:

Getting ready for a very exciting day in the NMSF Karaoke Competitions. Today is the Minors (Under 21) only competition at the Coronado Mobile Home Village Clubhouse, sponsored by K-Pen Karaoke owned by Disconanny. The show will kick off at 5:30 pm as up to twenty minors will show us what they’ve got and eight will move on to the NM State Fair Main Pavilion. You may come in as a walk in between 4:30 & 5:15pm.

Also, we are pleased to announce that we will have one additional participant in the NM State Fair Karaoke Competition. Call Me Ozz Dot Net LLC has been awarded the contract to manage the Valencia County Fair Karaoke Competition on Friday, August 21st from 7:30pm-10:00pm in Belen. We are still finalizing the scope of the competition, the one thing we do know is that the top two will also advance to the NM State Fair and will exhaust two of the spots left open for Last Chance to Qualify. I had to send you a note.

My wife was looking at the CallMeOzz site with it's new colors, etc.  She noticed the sponsors you landed for the NMSF Contest.  She remarked that getting sponsors was REALLY tough and marveling at all you've done with this contest.

I've told you this before but, you need to hear it again because with each you the improvements, changes, ideas are phenomenal not to mention making sure this event even happens.

There is nobody in the Karaoke Community or in all of New Mexico who could have pulled this off and maintained it going forward.  It is a testament to your sales skills, management skills, negotiation skills, Public Relations skills and so much more.

In a nutshell...your damned good brother.  Great job.  This is a shining moment (one of many I hope) in your life.

MONDAY, JUNE 29, 2015:

Clarification of Rules:

1-Song Change: Per Rule #12-A, you must submit a song at the time of registration. You MAY CHANGE YOUR SONG, up to ONE WEEK in advance by going to the REGISTRATION PAGE and clicking on the CHANGE SONG button. Attempting to change you song after the one week deadline is not acceptable, especially on the day of the competition. If we let one do it, the we have to let twenty four do it, and that could be a real problem. Additionally and especially, DO NOT ask the KJ, Assistants or Judges to change your song. We ask that everyone follows the rules, terms and conditions that they agree to when they register to make the entire competition more enjoyable for everyone.

2-Additionally, although it is not specifically in the rules, however it shall now be added. Only the first place winner from any previous NM State Fair Karaoke Competition is excluded from competition in any future years. We believe in allowing everyone the opportunity to become the NM State Fair Karaoke Champion.

3-Any unsportsmanlike conduct will eject any contestant from any and all Call Me Ozz endorsed events, per rule 2.2

And the first chapter of the journey has to come to an end…or the beginning…Last night we held the first qualifying night at Dewars Pub at Lucky 66 Bowl. We had a packed house at capacity all night long with the overflow servicing more people than the pub could hold. As the twenty pre-qualifiers took to the microphone, and gave it all they had the voices in the air were beyond amazing. As much as every single one of them deserved to go to the Main Pavilion the judges had to pick the top ten. Fortunately the journey is not over for the runner ups, as they have been rolled over to future participating venues, now they have some time to practice and give it another shot. I (Ozz) have taken the day and night off afterwards to recoup and regroup, so for now, to the left is the group picture of the qualifiers. We will get the individual pictures and elimination brackets updated this week and post it in the Facebook NM State Fair Group as soon as we do. Rule Clarification:

What happens if someone pre-qualified at the in house competition and then drops out?

This falls under rule 10, that we do everything we can to hold true to the original chances to advance. We try to send ten out of twenty to the NMSF from the In House competition. Therefore if a pre-qualified contestants drops out for any reason, we will find the next highest score and give them the opportunity to fill that spot.

This rule also holds true for the elimination rounds, semi final rounds and the grand finale at the NMSF.

Provided the drop out contestant notifies us via e-mail prior to their night, that contestant is not disqualified from the season, they may attempt to qualify at another venue or opportunity. If they simply do not show up, they will be disqualified as a no show.

Wow! Can you believe we are about to wrap up the preliminaries? Yup, tonight is the last night of the Pre-Qualifying rounds at Lucky 66 Bowl. As of 4pm we had 3 openings for tonight. The on line registration is now closed, however, you can come in as a on site sign up. Just show up at 8pm, no later than 9pm, and get in…..(Unless someone beats you). We will be finding our final four to return on May 29th, the first qualification night to go to the State Fair. Question: Why does have to be so difficult to register for this? Or Why can’t you register me? Or I am lost.

Answer: This is the biggest karaoke competition in New Mexico. We could very possibly have to register up to 240 contestants. There will be 96 at the elimination rounds. We must have a system that “flows”. We are looking for the best karaoke singers. Not necessarily the best vocalists although that is what happens. We have to impress thousands of spectators and very important people at the NM State Fair and the state period. Because of legalities and liabilities we must run a transparent, clean and fair competition and this is how believe is the best way to do it. We learned a lot last year on what to do and not do, that is why it is the way it is. We are always open to questions, comments and concerns and may let us know by visiting the registration page, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on CONTACT US.

This also encompasses the reasons why we cannot accept facebook messaging, texting and phone calls as a form of communication. Everything must be accountable, that is why awards@callmeozz.net is the only acceptable form of communication.

Also, we have received comments that it is too hard to find the registration form. As of today we have made it even easier. That will take you to the NMSF Karaoke Competition Page, we want you to go their first so you can read the narrative on the competition for the first understanding. This page also contains videos of last years competition, the ticker, the guest book, sponsors, and all of the participating venues. Once you click on the “Register Here” button on this page it will take you to the registration page, where according to most people is very simple to navigate through.

FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2015:

Today there was a modification to the rules put into place. Because of the size of this competition all song changes, venue changes and communication with Call Me Ozz must be submitted through the website. This is to ensure the change takes place. On the registration page, at the bottom of the page are quick and easy button links to change your song, venue or to communicate with us. Notice: Only two changes during the entire competition season may be permitted and now shows are disqualified from the season.

SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 2015:

The 2015 New Mexico State Fair Karaoke Competition has begun! Last night the first of five pre-qualification rounds were held at Lucky 66 Bowl. Twelve contestants competed to find the first four to pre-qualify to the first qualification round at DeWars Pub on Friday, May 29th. Congratulations to Tetrix, Davyd Roseman, Margie and Rachael Ross.....with the next two close runner ups, Melrose and Zack.   Then all twenty of the pre-qualified contestants shall return and compete to see who the first ten to the Main Pavilion are. We had a packed house, it was standing room only all night long. We even had a visitor from KRQE Channel 13 News there. You can still get in on the action but don’t wait till it’s too late! Sign up to qualify at your favorite venue now!

MONDAY. APRIL 6, 2015:

Q: Can I sign up for more than one venue at a time?

A: No, you may only sign up for one venue at a time. If you attempt to qualify at a venue and you do not advance, you may sign up for another venue. In fact, when you check in, you will be asked this question and you will automatically be moved over to that venue. This is called “Rollover Reservation”. See rule #13.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1st:

Clarification of Rule #18:

During the competition season (April 17-September 21) it is strictly prohibited to “hang out with”, “intermingle with”, “associate with”, “fraternize with”, in or out of any venue or State Fair premises. We understand that chance encounters may occur, and in those circumstances the conversation should be very limited and should not include anything that has to do with the competitions. The judges are also informed not to associate with any of the contestants at any time and if so they will be relieved of their position. If a contestant would like to know how they were judged, refer to rule #36.

We are now preparing the stage for the 2015 NM State Fair Karaoke Competitions and prepare to crown the second ever NM State Fair Karaoke Champion.

This year’s qualifying competitions will be spiffed up a bit this year. Venues will have the option of hosting a simple one night only contest that will qualify four or eight, depending on the size of their venue, they may instead choose a specialty competition like a six week in house competition that will prequalify four singers each night to return on the final qualification night where eight will go to the Main Pavilion, or, duets, or duels where singers will sing the same song to be judged on who’s the best. Or the costume contest, where you have to dress like the singer you are mimicking. Or perhaps top male/top female. We will be seeking a venue to host the minor’s only qualification.

Last year we promised the biggest karaoke competition the state has ever seen….this year our goal is to deliver the largest karaoke competition the United States has ever seen!

There will be room for eleven venues to participate this year. The venues from last year will have first option, then we will offer it to the most upscale and professional venues from there that have expressed an interest.

We will also be looking for $5,000 in sponsorships to use as prizes and awards for everyone who makes it to the Main Pavilion.

Also, the KJ’s and the Venues will be judged during the qualification nights, and on the Grand Finale day, not only will be crowning the new king or queen, but we will also be awarding the best KJ, best Venue, Top Male, Top Female, Best Duet, Top Duel, Top Costume, and Top Minor.

At Call Me Ozz we pride ourselves on delivering amazing contests. We have listened to all the complaints, concerns and ideas from last year and will be enacting upon them to make this an amazing year.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2014:

At 3:00pm yesterday afternoon, we crowned the first ever NM State Fair Karaoke Champion. Congratulations to Jason Paz. Make no mistake Milli W the runner up and JJ Jones our third place winner were within points of each other. Each one sang three songs in a row as they make their final attempt at taking the crown. Luis Hernandez, the Entertainment Director surprised everyone with the additional prize for each the Grand Finale finalists as he announced each one of them will have their own performance agreement in the 2015 NM State Fair. In addition, Charlie the amazing sound engineer professionally recorded each of them, and along with Kammo from Kammo's Karaoke & DJ Services will be creating a professionally mixed DVD for each of them use as an audition DVD. Last night's concert of finalists was absolutely amazing. It was a concert of voices in front of an estimated crowd of 800. As much as everyone deserved to come back for the Grand Finale today, only three may. Congrats to Milli W, Jason P and JJ Jones. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2014:

Last night the semi finals were held. The top 24 singers shared the stage in front of an estimated audience of 600, to find the next 12 to move on to the finals tonight at 8:00pm, where the judges will have their toughest job so far, to find the top three. Tonight will be a concert of epic proportions, you will not want to miss this.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2014:

Last night was yet another amazing night at the State Fair with more amazing singers! Three more moved on (check out the brackets below and the photo gallery) and now tonight, we get the final three!!!! Then tomorrow, starting at 8pm, the best 24 singers in Albuquerque hit the stage!

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2014:

These shows have been absolutely amazing! Rain or Shine the shows go on because they are all under the tents. Last night we had to qualify eight at the Fair, this was and will be highest number to qualify at the Fair. We had our twelve on the main stage and congrats to Jason P, JJ Jones and Mark!

All reservation spots for open karaoke are now full. We leave four spots available for people at the fair, and those that signed up that don''t check in by 5:30 are lost to a stand by.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER, 15, 2014:

Last night we got off to a late start due to technical difficulties but thanks to the dedication of the KJ, MJ, the amazing staff at the NM State Fair we rolled and the show went on! The singers were absolutely amazing and tonight will be another amazing show I have no doubt. We have two re-do's for tonight therefore instead of qualifying 8 as originally planned, we will be qualifying 6 from inside the NM State Fair at the African American Pavilion at 5:45pm. There are 3 spots available for on site sign up, check in and registration is from 5:15-5:30. As of right now there are three on line reservation spots available for Wednesday, September 17th and one for Thursday, September 18th, after that everything is 100% full.

Tonight's KJ El Jay from Graham Central Station will be driving the ship, see you at the African American Pavilion at 5:45pm and the Main Pavilion in the middle of the food court at 8:00pm!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2014:

Last night was yet another amazing night of talent at the NM State Fair Karaoke Competitions. We now have nine headed to the semi finals on Friday, September 19th. We will get the brackets and the photo gallery updated as soon as possible. Tonight will be another over the top night as ten pre-qualified will hit the stage at 8pm. There are some open spots for open karaoke available of which you can be on premise stand by. Check in is from 5:15-5:30 at the Main Pavilion tonight, stage time is 5:45-6:45. We will be qualifying one. (There was two, however, due to a rollover issue from Saturday, only one will be qualified.)

ALSO, as a side note on the rules: The rules for this competition are limited to the jurisdiction of the NM State Fair only.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2014:

RULE ADJUSTMENT: With the agreement of the Judges, the Assistant and the top two NM State Fair Planning Committee:

If a contestants performance is jeopardized for any reason on the stage because of an error from the KJ or any other person without prior notice, the contestant may be entitled to a re-do. It will be the final decision of the judges as to whether or not a re-do is justified.

If a re-do is justified, the contestant shall be entitled to choose another night to come back and will receive an entry pass to do so.

This rule cannot apply on the 18th, so in that case the re-do would have to happen that night, and we will make every effort to make the wrong right.

On Friday, September 12th, three contestants were jeopardized. Those three contestants have been given the opportunity to schedule a re-do. Two of them chose to do so:

Christy will perform her re-do on Monday, September 15th
K-Dogg will perform his re-do on Wednesday, September 17th
Grimm has chosen to drop out

When will I get my pass?

The order for comp passes could not be turned in until all of the judges dates, KJ dates and qualifiers were set in stone. That was completed Thursday (9-4) and submitted to the NM State Fair. We are now waiting for them to issue them. As soon as we have them, we will get in touch you and get them to you, or let you know where to pick them up.

Today there was a change made in the hosting KJ for the finals night on Saturday, September 20th. Kammo will not be able to host that night, so DJ Koz will be covering that night.

Changes: Changes to your night at the Main Pavilion are not possible at this point. Everything is now set in stone, elimination brackets, song requests, gate passes, open karaoke/last chance qualifications, etc. There are too many things to just Changing a Date. Your song may be changed up to seven days before your night.

Re: Rule Modification/Clarification-Props

There are no props allowed on stage. This includes but not limited to chairs, air guitars, etc. The focus is to be kept on the singer, the vocals and the stage performance without additional propaganda.

There have been a lot of e-mails gone out in the last couple of days as everything is starting to come to it's point. A lot of questions are being asked and they were answered in the e-mails but here are some of the most popular ones:

WHY DO I HAVE TO TURN IN TWO SONGS IF I AM ONLY SINGING ONE? One is your primary song, one is your back up song. If you turn in your song and someone else has already claimed it, or if the day of the stage, there is a corupt file, or a problem we will immediately switch you to your back up song. Remember, the day of the stage there is no time forgiveness, we must run 14 songs in one hour and then the next act comes on.

WHAT TIME DO I HAVE TO CHECK IN? For Open Karaoke/Last Chance Qualifying, check in time is no later than 5:30pm Stage Time is 5:45 pm, Elimination rounds is 7:30pm. Stage time is 8:00pm

WHAT TIME DO THE KJ'S CHECK IN? 5:15 for open karaoke, 7:15 for Elimination Rounds, Semi Finals and Finals. 1:30 for the Grand Finale.

WHAT DAY AM I ON STAGE? Check the elimination brackets.

WHEN WILL I GET MY PASS? The State Fair has to issue the passes, as soon as they are ready you will be contacted to go pick them up, and you may use them all day.

WHAT ABOUT THE PARADE? The first priority was to get all of the contestants and rollover reservations situated. Now that they we will focus on the parade, you will receive an e-mail concerning this.

And that's a wrap. Last night was the last qualifying night at Effingbar. We had some now shows, had some stand by's and were a little bit shy of twenty contestants but the turn out was wall to wall and the ones attempting to qualify really gave it their all. Congratulations to Melissa A, Dizzy B, Lawrence M, Isreal L, Michelle L, and Delfino M. Once all of the scores are entered into the system, the next six highest scores will be contacted to make their way to the stage as well. Check back soon to see who it is!

Last night it was the second to the last qualifying night at SKIDZ and wow it was packed and crazy! We had nine people on the stand by list and we were able to get six of them in. The talent in the house was amazing and just like every other qualifying night the six headed to the stage will bring intense competition. FRIDAY, AUGUST 22, 2014

It was Thursday, August 21st…all was calm in  Santa Fe, New Mexico until the carload of Call Me Ozz people descended upon Applebee's and filled them up! This was the only participating venue in Santa Fe so you know what that means! It was packed wall to wall with supporters here to support all of the singers attempting to get to the big stage. The judges had their hands full as they could only pick six to move on. Raelena, a minor qualified as she blew everyone away with her amazing voice and stage presence, then there was that dreaded coin toss tie breaker again, where Chris C called the winning side. Edie G, Junk Yard Dog, Michael M and Krystal L, didn't hold back. Congratulations to you all, see you at the fair!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 23, 2014:

The long awaited for Barley Room competition went down last Wednesday and as expected is was extremely intense. The Barley Room was at capacity and Stew Dizzle handled the record breaking 53 singer rotation like a champ! Every competitor gave it all they had, and they better. It boiled down to the top seven and we had to do the dreaded coin toss tie breaker. Congratulations to Davyd R., Milli W., Kathleen M., John W., Amethyst, and Mimi Marrs…we'll see you at the fair!

THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2014:

CLARIFICATION & REASONING OF RULE #4:

4-Ties shall be broken with a coin flip.

This rule has been applied three times now. It is only applicable to the last place contestants. So if there is a tie for third and fourth, it wouldn't matter.

We choose the coin toss vs a sing off because we feel the judges already made their decision the first time. 
Also, having a sing off and having the judges re-score the singer opens the door to grey areas of unfairness, one side is going feel they got shafted while the other side is jumping for joy.
A coin toss is black and white, it's heads or tails, no negotiating. 
Also, every competition is limited on time, there is not enough time to add in two or more songs into the night.

Graham Central Station was also packed full of awesome singers and awesome supporters. The crowd was a little quiet at first but by the end of it all they were pretty wound up. Congratulations to the next six headed to the Main Pavilion! Koda, Lady B, Lauren A, Roberto G, Gigi DeMure and Mandy!!!!

It is almost time to head on over to Graham Central Station for another awesome qualification round. Beings as an in house, these folks had to pre-qualify to sing on the stage before the stage….This will be one heck of a show. Doors will open at 9pm, after 10pm there is a $5 cover.

Reminder: The Qualification night for tonight a Spectators Sports Bar & Grill has been cancelled.

SCORES: You may request to know what your scores are for any one qualification night. You may only know YOUR scores, no other scores shall be disclosed. As stated in the rules all scores are final and non-negotiable. We will not show you what each individual judge has scored you on, we will only show you your score for each category and then a total, and your placement.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2014:

Last night's qualifying rounds at Malarky's was a challenging one, not only for the competitors but for the KJ and the servers. Once the band cleared the stage the show started late but was well worth it. More and more people are showing for the qualifying nights, making it more and more exciting and if something goes wrong it makes it that more intense. Technical difficulties began to occur on the sound about half way through the competition, unable to fix the problem the contestants had to show their endurance and sing through the crackling and those that did, prospered to the stage. DJ Flaii was amazing to hold her posture through the tough times and handle at least 40 singers, and DJ DraZtik was a huge help. The crowd was out of this world. The judges had extra pressure having to block out and focus and in the end Mikie Elvis, Hey Whore, Birdie, Terese, Lacey and Julz advanced to the NM State Fair. Sidelines is set for Tuesday, August 12th. This venue has been sold out for a week and a half, this will be the most intense one so far. See you there!

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2014:

Tonight Malarky's on Hotel Circle will be filled with more amazing vocals of Albuquerque as twenty compete to send six to the NM State Fair. Join us as the fun begins at 9pm. As of 11:02 am we were full but then had two cancellations, so there are two spots available until the on line registration closes at 3pm. After that, you can show up at Malarky's and as long as there is space available you can get in. If you come just to sing, we can accommodate that as well. Unlike block out competitions, we rotate regular singers in between the contestants. See you tonight!

TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2014:

Last week's first rounds of qualifying nights was to say the least amazing, and no doubt this week will be no different. There is only one qualifying venue this week and that is Malarky's with DJ Flaii on Wednesday night. As of right now there are three spots available.

There will not be a pre-qualifying night this Thursday, August 7th, at Graham Central Station due to a scheduling conflict, so the fifth place pre-qualifier from each of the four pre-qualifying nights was selected to return on August 14th to qualify to the NM State Fair.

The qualification night for Spectators was cancelled. Those that were signed up were transferred to other venues so rule #22 will be in placed. After all of the qualifying rounds are completed, the next top six scores will be asked to join the others at the Main Pavilion.

MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2014:

Last Saturday night was the long awaited for Lucky 66 Bowl qualification night. I arrived at 8pm and there were already about 20 people in there claiming tables. We converted the pool table to a giant community table and added a banquet table on the stage and still didn't have enough seats. All but one pre-qualifier showed up and the place was packed and full of energy. The contest began and this place got rocked until the end. The 19 that sing all deserved to go to the stage, unfortunately only 6 could go. Congrats to Christina G., JJ Jones, Mikaela L., Adam and Tetrix. And then there was a tie between John Welch and Short Stack, so we pulled out the coin and did a coin toss and Short Stack went onto the stage. Join us at Malarky's, Wednesday, August 6th for the next round. There is no doubt it will be another amazing show!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 3, 2014:

CLARIFICATION OF RULE #7:

7-Only the singers may be permitted on stage. No additional persons such as back up singers, harmonizers or dancers. The focus is to be kept on the singer.

The key word here is STAGE. This rule was put into place for the Main Pavilion Stage at the NM State Fair. We did not want any singers, harmonizers or dancers on that stage, only the singer. If a singer in a qualification night brings a support team with him or her and they dance while they are singing it is acceptable. For example, a singer singing a country song, and people get up to dance, or any genre of music. It would also be acceptable at the NM State Fair for people to dance on the floor in front of the stage. The judges know how to decipher the quality of the vocals and crowd interaction.

CLARIFICATION OF RULE #15:

15-Cussing is not permitted. If a cuss word is in the song, it must be omitted or changed.

In this day and age "Cuss" words are almost everyday conversation, however for the sake of the NM State Fair, family atmosphere cussing will not be permitted at all on the Main Stage. This rule is not so applicable at the "No Minors Allowed" venues for qualifications. If your song has ANY "cuss" words in it prepare yourself to change them. Listed below are some suggestions:

Bi***-Broad

SATURDAY, AUGUST 2, 2014:

Wow, I can't believe it is time for the In House Qualification night at Lucky 66 Bowl. This one has been a long time coming. We started 6 weeks ago and held pre-qualifying nights every Saturday for five Saturday's, picking the top four each time. Now we have twenty amazing singers getting ready to rock this bowling center like never before! The show will begin at 9pm, with DJ DraZtik. We are expecting a full house, so if you wanna see this, come early!

FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, 2014:
Last night at Slate Street it was an amazing night as we qualified the first six to hit the Main Pavilion Stage for the NM State Fair. It was an extremely highly competitive night as sixteen contestants belted out their best tunes and the amazing judges had one heck of a tough job to do, and they did it quite well. Congrats to: Pesh, Tabby, Grimm, Gary T., Redman, and Gunny. Scroll down the page, to the elimination brackets to see when they are going to be on stage!

Tomorrow night is the five week long awaited for in house qualification night at Lucky 66 Bowl. Twenty amazing singers shall compete to send six off to the stage, even if you are not in this qualifying night and want to hear some amazing singers, you should plan to attend, however, get there early, it just might be busy.

Next Wednesday is qualifying night at Malarky's and next Friday is Spectators. They are both filling up. If you want to reserve your spot you might want to do it asap as the ones that don't qualify have the option have the automatic right to go to the next venue in line, so after tomorrow night they could both fill up.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 2014:
Well, well, well, things are getting ready to heat up! Tomorrow night will be the first night we send six singers off to the Main Pavilion stage at Slate Street. There are still a few spots if you wanna try and qualify.

TUESDAY, JULY 29, 2014:
Due to a scheduling conflict, Graham Central Station will not be holding a Pre-Qualifying night on Thursday, August 7th. The last opportunity will be Thursday, July 31st. Visit the IN HOUSE page for details on how this adjustment will be handled.

MONDAY, JULY 28, 2014:
Last Saturday night was the last night to get pre-qualified for the qualification night at Lucky 66 Bowl for Saturday, August 2nd. That night will be one hell of a show! Everyone who tried out were amazing singers and I hope to see them attempt to qualify at one of the one night only competitions. See you Thursday at Slate Street or Saturday at Lucky 66!

SATURDAY, JULY 26, 2014:
It's hard to believe tonight is the last Pre-Qualification night at Lucky 66 Bowl before their qualification night next Saturday, August 2nd. Tonight they will pre-qualify their four. Open to to the first 15 who sign up or the beginning of the second rotation.

FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2014:
Last night Graham Central Station was above and beyond alive! Once again, the top notch singers of Albuquerque showed up to the stage to give it their all and every single one of them were amazing, unfortunately we could only pick four to move on to the qualifying round. They have been posted in the IN HOUSE ELIMINATION BRACKETS. There are two pre-qualifying nights left at Graham Central Central Station till the big night on August 14th.

THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2014:
There is only one karaoke venue in town that has a real stage, with stage lighting and stage sound, and a bar just for karaoke and that is Graham Central Station. On August 14th, Graham Central Station will be qualifying 6 singers to go to the Main Pavilion Stage at the NM State Fair 2014. Because Graham is doing "In House" qualifying, you must "Pre-Qualify" at one of their pre-qualifying nights. Tonight is one of those nights. Four singers will pre-qualify to return on August 14th. Doors open at 9pm, first fifteen (or the beginning of the second rotation) may attempt to pre-qualify. $5 cover after 10pm. Awesome drink specials.

TUESDAY, JULY 22, 2014:
Last Saturday was the second to the last pre-qualifying round at Lucky 66 Bowl. Four more were sent on to the qualification night at Lucky 66 Bowl on Saturday, August 2nd. That night is gonna be one heck of a show. Even if you are not in it, you should come on down and see the amazing talent that has been coming here. The brackets have been updated in the In House. SATURDAY, JULY 19, 2014:
As of today 60 of the 200 qualification spots are now taken. Tonight you can pre-qualify at Lucky 66 Bowl for their qualification night on Saturday, August 2nd. The first 15 to sign up or the beginning of the second rotation, whichever comes first. Karaoke begins at 9pm.

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 2014:
Four more contestants were pre-qualified last night for the qualifying night at Graham Central Station on August 14th. There are three more Thursday's to pre-qualify at Graham Central Station. Check the in house brackets for the latest update.

THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2014:
Tonight, pre-qualifying at Graham Central Station continues. We will begin at 9pm to the first 15 who sign up or the beginning of the second rotation. If you come in after 10pm there is a $5 cover charge, so get there early! We will pre-qualify 4 to return on August 14th where we will qualify 6 to go on to the Main Pavilion Stage at the NM State Fair!

Sunday, July 13, 2014:
Last night was the third pre-qualifying round at Lucky 66 Bowl. There were 13 attempting to pre-qualify and all of them were amazing! The four that have moved on to the qualifying night are now posted in the In House Brackets. Next pre-qualifying rounds are at Graham Central Station on Thursday, July 17th!

Last night was the first night of pre-qualifying at Graham Central Station and WOW, did some awesome singers show up or what?! Lucky 66 Bowl will continue with pre-qualifying this Saturday.

Sunday, July 6th:
Last night was the second round of Pre-Qualifying at Lucky 66 Bowl and once again it was a sell out. We reached the 15 limit cap by 9:30 and it was a packed house. The four that pre-qualified are now listed in the brackets on the IN HOUSE page, simply click on the button below the Lucky 66 Bowl logo to the left. Next Thursday, Graham Central Station will begin their pre-qualifying rounds, and Lucky 66 Bowl will continue theirs on Saturday.

Saturday, July 5th:

Sunday, June 29th:
last night was the opening night for the Lucky 66 Bowl pre-qualifying. Twice as many as we expected showed up so it was a  little bit crazy. All of the singers were amazing and no doubt all deserved to go strait to the Main Pavilion. Unfortunately we could only pick four to comeback on August 2nd and qualify to go to the big stage. Congratulations to Bridget Gonzales, Laticia Lovato, Tim Kenton and Lawrence Mirabal. Pre-qualification continues next Saturday at Lucky 66 Bowl, and begins at Graham Central Station on July 10th.

Saturday, June 28th:
Tonight at Lucky 66 Bowl we will be pre-qualifying 4 singers to advance to the qualifying night at Lucky 66 Bowl qualifying night on August 2nd. On August 2nd, we will be qualifying 6 singers to go to the NM State Fair. Be there at 9pm.

Thursday, June 26th:
Tonight I (Ozz) will begin going to all the participating venues to promote the contest and answer any questions in person. Tonight I will be at Effingbar, Slate Street tomorrow, Lucky 66 Bowl on Saturday, Sidelines on July 8th, Barley Room on July 9th, Graham Central Station on July 10th, Spectators on July 10th, Z's on July 17th.

Mark your calendar, plan to be at Lucky 66 Bowl to get a jump start on everyone else! Starting this Saturday, June 28th, Lucky 66 Bowl will begin their IN HOUSE competitions. 4 will pre-qualify every Saturday for the next 5 Saturday's. THEN on Saturday, August 2nd....those 20 pre-qualifiers will return and 6 will move on to the MAIN PAVILION STAGE at the NM STATE FAIR KARAOKE COMPETITION! I will be there, I hope you are too!

Thursday, June 19th:
****NOTICE**** The starting date of the preliminary qualifications/In House Competitions at Lucky 66 Bowl were scheduled to start this Saturday the 21st. This will have to be postponed by one week. They will begin on the following Saturday, June 28th at 9pm. See you then!

Tuesday, June 16th:
Apparently Lucky 66 Bowl double booked an event for this weekend. They have rented the entire bowling center, including the pub to a private party. The contest will go on, however it will have to start one week late. Notifications will posted on Facebook, and adjustments to all calenders and promotions will be made on Wednesday.

Monday, June 16th:
